As the second largest of the five botanical gardens in Sri Lanka, Hakgala is a popular attraction in Nuwara Eliya. It is also located directly across from Seetha Amman Kovil and is just a 10-minute drive from Nuwara Eliya. This 28-acre garden is a paradise for nature enthusiasts, featuring over 10,000 species of flora in beautifully manicured gardens and forests.

Take time to enjoy the various sub-gardens, including the Upper Flower Garden, Fernery, Rock Garden, Arboretum, Rose Garden, and Glass House. Each area presents a unique and vibrant display of exotic plants and flowers, making it perfect for a romantic day out.

Although it requires a trek off the main pathways, a trip to Bomburu Ella Waterfall is a must for those visiting Nuwara Eliya. At just 50 metres high, the waterfall is the widest in the country and magnificent during the rainy season. Located only 30 minutes from the city, this stunning waterfall is the largest and most beautiful in the area. If you only have time to visit one waterfall, make it Bomburu Ella.

Visiting in the morning will allow plenty of time to trek through the forested pathways and enjoy the booming waterfall up close. You can even take a dip in one of the cool natural pools created by the falling cascade at the waterfall’s base.

An example of Tudor-era architecture in Sri Lanka, the Nuwara Eliya Post Office was built in 1894, complementing the island’s existing colonial style. The building features a red brick exterior and a distinctive clock tower, offering visitors a glimpse into Old Ceylon during the British era. As one of the country’s oldest post offices, it is an island treasure and a protected building.

Located about 5 km from Nuwara Eliya town, The Holy Trinity Church is a site of historical and spiritual relevance, constructed by the British in 1833 and completed in 1843. Officially declared open on February 24, 1852, this "Church of England" establishment showcases British architectural techniques and features a distinctive pipe organ.

The church's British character is evident in its intricate stained-glass windows, grand pipe organ, and the two old lych gates in the garden. A piece of old England, it is documented that planters would ride to the church on horseback, dismount at the gates, and tether their horses before entering the church compound, just as they did back home.

Holy Trinity Church, with its well-maintained garden and graveyard, retains a solemn air of sanctity and is a poignant reminder of Nuwara Eliya's colonial past.

Located about 7 km from Nuwara Eliya, near the Pedro Tea estate, the waterfall is a scenic drive from town that offers breathtaking views of the beautiful landscape. Journey through the tea factory and along a dirt road to the tea manager’s bungalow to reach the location. Follow the signs and arrive at a rock face and a small Shiva shrine. Just beyond the shrine, you'll find the cascading waterfall.
