    Almost opposite the Hakgala Botanical Gardens, Seetha Amman Kovil serves as a must-stop for those exploring the Ramayana trails in Sri Lanka. This temple is unique because it is built in the style of South Indian architecture and is the only one of its kind in the world. According to the epic Ramayana, this site is where Seetha was held captive and hidden by King Rama to protect her from the demon king Ravana; the architecture of the kovil features gleaming gold-like statues of the principal gods.

    The nearby stream is believed to be where Seetha bathed, and beside it, a rock where she prayed. Across the stream, circular depressions in the rock are said to be the footprints of Ravana’s elephant.
