Pedro Tea Estate is famous for its unique “Ceylon Tea” and the beautiful Lovers Leap waterfall on its plantation. For an immersive and historical experience to understand the growing, processing and brewing of the world’s best Ceylon Tea, head to Pedro Estate for a tea learning experience at this tea factory in Nuwara Eliya.
James Taylor, the pioneer Tea planter, is known to have planted the first tea bushes at this estate, sparking the tea revolution of the world.
A short drive from Nuwara Eliya, the Pedro Estate will transport you back in time with a 20-minute factory tour to view the process of manufacturing tea. The entire tea manufacturing process involves plucking, withering, rolling, fermentation, firing, and sorting/grading before it is bulk packed and sent to the tea auctions in Colombo. Learn about the different grades, varieties and subtleties of packaging and processing the delicate leaves.
The tour ends at a tea boutique, “Lovers Leap Ethical Tea Boutique”, where you can enjoy tea and snacks. Featuring incredible views of the blue skies, Bomburu Ella reservoir and concentric circles of tea plantation, the scene feels like something from a picture postcard. Purchase freshly brewed tea at the boutique, the perfect souvenir for friends and family back home.
After the tea factory tour visit the nearby Lovers Leap waterfall located within the plantation setting of Pedro Estate.
