AN ISLAND LOST IN TIME
Delft Island Jaffna
Colonial Remnants, Wild Ponies and African Baobabs
Hop on a local ferry from Karikkaduwan Jetty in Jaffna to the Delft Island Jaffna. Sri Lanka’s most intriguing island, here you will discover an island lost in time. There are no cars on the island, and all you will encounter is a landscape with a few local families, wild ponies roaming the landscape, coral stone-built local dwellings, an African-origin Baobab Tree brought to the island by Arabic traders and the remnants of a colonial fort.
Beautiful blue ocean waters and palm trees surround the island. The government operates only one public ferry to the island in the morning (the second is for locals returning to the island in the evening), and the ferry ride itself is an experience akin to being a local.
