Amangalla is a former Dutch military officers residence renovated to a Luxury Hotel in Galle Fort. Boasting the most magnificent views of the Galle harbour on one side and its inviting pool and lush garden terrance from another, Amangalla, is a Honeymoon Guide favourite for its location, charming heritage and luxurious amenities.
The building has been painstakingly restored in line with the stringent regulations of the Galle Fort staying true to its colonial-era aesthetic. With colourful floor tiles that date back to the 1600s and authentic antique furniture this hotel is a recreation masterpiece.
Amangalla features a intimate colonial coziness stradlled by infinite luxury romance touches. Honeymooners will love the load of complimenteries offered for your stay including use of their Hydrptherapy Spa. Unparelled and personalized Aman butler service will ensure your pampered every step of the way.
Our recommendation for Honeymooners is the secluded two story Garden House, with plenty of space this is the perfect intimate hideaway.
Originally built in 1684 as a Dutch military office, and then later used by the British military, the building was converted into a Hotel in 1863, making it one of the oldest hotels in the country. Added to the global AMAN collection in 2005 this is one of the most sought after honeymoon and romance accomodations in the Galle Fort.
The “ ZAAL” or hall, where one steps in to the hotel has an immersive colonial feel with high ceilings, large overhead fans and chandeliers and sets the tone of the property. One of only few hotels to have an inhouse pool, this oasis is surrounded by palms and features several wooden sun loungers and five “Ambalama” style shaded rest pavilions.
Amangalla has 29 rooms in total, divided into Bedroom, Chamber, Suite & Garden House rooms, with upstair fort views and poolside and garden views. The rooms are furnished in a traditional colonial style and the smooth polished wooden floorboards shine even after 300 years.
